I have always loved wood crafts...it doesn't matter if the item that I am making at that time is for tole painting crafts or the creation of an heirloom type project...the is I love wood crafts. It might be strange for me to say this but there are some woods that I really enjoy smelling. I am far from being a full blown tree hugger but I am in a funny sort of a way a tree sniffer, LOL.

My wood craft world came crashing down on me April 2011 when I had to have neck surgery. I had an on the job injury several months before the surgery that had actually gave the appearance of something like carpel tunnel syndrome. I had all the symptoms of carpel tunnel syndrome and was treated for carpel tunnel syndrome but after six months of treatment my condition was not improving it was actually getting much worse. To make a long story short an MRI was ordered by my doctor and it was determined that my on the job injury was misdiagnosed and I nearly lost the total use of my left arm. The damage was done and it is permanent and I do not have full control of my left arm.

So, as for wood crafting I had to make a lot of changes in how made things. If I cannot hold or control the item, that I am working on, for my own safety sake, I either have to give up on the project or find another way to make the item. Being the stubborn person that I am I was not about to give up my wood crafts so I created my own solution to my problem...I actually designed and built a cnc router and then spent the next 18 months to learn how to use it. My cnc router gets the job done and I am often times happy with the results. Many people have called my methodologies of wood crafting cheating...The way that I look at it is if I had complete use of my arms then I would perhaps say or think the same thing, but the fact is, I don't have complete use or control of my arms and hands and I had to come up with a solution.

The other bad thing that happened to me was that I lost my job as a department lead at the same facility where I was injured. My employer listed me as a medical liability and that ended my career. With Utah being a right to work state there was not a dang thing that I could do. After consulting with more than a dozen attorneys I simply gave up on pursuing a lawsuit.

I have had a very difficult time finding a job because I do not have any transferable skills and I have also been denied SSI because in their opinion if I can move my arms and grasp things then I am in good enough condition to work another 20 years.

Since I have not been able to find long term respectable employment I made the decision to use my wood crafts skills to earn some sort of an income. The income that I currently earn does not pay all of my bills but it helps a little, what I need is for my Etsy shop to go to the next level so that I can earn an income that I can survive on.

Thank you for reading my story
