no previous part Part 1 of Cabinet on Stand series no next part

I’m beginning a new project. This will be a small upright cabinet on a stand and it will have a small drawer inside.
The carcase will be done in hard maple with a walnut and spalted curley maple frame and panel door. The cabinet will sit on top of a walnut and maple stand.
Cabinet dimensions will be 13” tall, 7” wide, and 6” deep.
The stand will be about 6” tall.
As always this project will be hand tools only.

Let’s get started.

#1 At this point the case parts have all been cut to size and square six sides. I’ve begun the layout for the dovetails.

#2 I use a shop made magnetic saw guide to keep the angle consistent on all the pins and tails.

#3 The waste is removed with some chisel work. With hard maple you have to sharpen often, it makes all the difference.

#4 Here I have the dovetail work for the carcase finished and have added rebates for the ship lapped back panel. The pieces for the frame and panel door are starting to take shape.
