I have a few hand planes that do not have irons. This one is missing a wedge and iron, but then again it was only $5. The body itself was in condition with very minimum cracks. I started off by working on the body of the plane. Removing a random sticker and then sanding down the years and years of dirt. I didn’t take off too much on the front or back because of the markings. Next I used turpentine to clean it up. It seems to soak into the wood and also lets the boiled linseed oil soak in better. After about 6 hours of drying i started applying 4 coats of shellac. In the middle of all this I was working on making the irons. I totally screwed these up, but did learn a lot on them and being able to see what is suppose to be a cutter and what itsn’t. I had a cutter in the fence area and that was one big mistake. Check out the video and see it all in action.
