Has anyone ever built a shop made clamp system like the JLT 8ft panel clamp #79F-8-PC? It is basically a panel clamp rack that has 5 levels and multiple clamps on each level. It is marketed towards cabinet and furniture making shops that glue up a lot of panels. We have some up coming jobs at work that are going to require a ton of panels and we...

Questions on shop wiring - 15 replies

So I recently purchased 5 new (used) machines and now need to run some new outlets to plug them up to. My question is whether it would be ok to put 2-3 machines on one circuit since they won’t ever be used at one time being that it’s just me in the shop? The machines are a 20amp 3hp jointer, a 20amp Blum hinge boring machine, two 3hp shapers and...

Motor issues with Craftsman Professional 351 series table saw - 2 replies

So my Craftsman Professional 351 series cabinet saw seems to have stopped working and I could use some help diagnosing and fixing the issue. It started to not turn on when I pushed the on button and sometimes I would have to push it twice. Then it would act like it wanted to start, but wouldn’t. The blade would attempt to start turning but th...

Northfield 30” band saw - 3 replies

Any one have any experience with a Northfield 30” bandsaw? I can get it for $750. It’s in good shape and has a 5HP 3 phase motor. I am ok with that. Would like to get it to resaw and such. Only thing is that the guides are kind of worn out. Too much play and difficult to keep set. Would a set of Carter guides fit one of these?

Need help with wiring for a Powermatic 72 - 21 replies

I have a 3 phase 7.5hp Powermatic 72 that I am getting ready to run the line for getting power to it. I have a RPC that is driven by a 25hp motor. The only thing is that the Powermatic 72 is wired for 440v. Would I need to change the wiring over to 240v before connecting it to my RPC? If so, is this done at the switch? Star/Delta type thing? I h...

Cutting repeatable toe kicks in base cabinet sides - 4 replies

So I am wanting to make either a jig or a router table dedicated to cutting out toe kicks in base cabinet sides. Thinking that a dedicated router table would be my best option. I could use a straight bit and set the fence in the necessary position and then add a stop block at the end of the fence. I would like to use one router table and one set...

Need some help fellows. I recently picked up an SCMI T120 shaper made in I believe 1988 and an older green 5HP Powermatic 26 shaper. Building a Ritter style door assembly table. Need help with the pneumatics - 0 replies

So I have been wanting to try and build myself a pneumatic door assembly table such as the versions from Ritter. I can build the table itself just fine. I have a buddy with a metal cutting CNC and he could make the table top with the dog holes and machine me some squaring bars. I have built him umpteen cabinets over the years so he owes me! (lol...

So I am looking to run some air lines to 3 different machines in my shop. I have a Husky 60 gallon compressor, and I need to run lines to my Shing Sheng SDM-25 wide belt sander, then to my Blum MiniDrill pneumatic hinge boring machine, and then to my Northtech 14” upcut saw. I believe that my compressor is a 3HP. I will be using either Pex or a ...

Source for 3 phase electric motors - 4 replies

Do any of you guys have a good source for medium sized 3 phase electric motors? I need a 20HP motor to make a phase converter. Might go with a 30hp or even 40hp depending on the price. I have been told that there are sources for used 3 phase electric motors in the horse power range that I am looking at in the $150-$250 range but I can’t seem to...

Festool vac suggestions - 9 replies

I am looking into getting a decent dust extractor solely for the purpose of using it with my orbital sander. It will never be used to vacume up saw dust on the floor, or hooked to any other machine. I have a central dust collector for all of that. I can’t spend $1,000+ on this as it’s just not in the budget. I have looked over the Festool lineup...

So I am trying out undermounts for the first time. Decided to go with the Grass Dynapro 3d slides. I also have the rear brackets for the slides themselves, and the jig for the holes in the drawer for the locking devices. So I...

Best system for 5mm shelf pins - 3 replies

I have a cabinet job coming up and I would like to get a better system for my shelf pins. In the past I have just used the standard cheap push in pins, and just letting the shelves rest on these pins. I have a Delta line boring machine. I have heard of 5mm shelf pin systems where the pins have an extra tab or bump where you basically mortise in ...

Looking for advice on devices used to calibrate wide belt sander conveyer beds to the sanding heads - 10 replies

Ok so I am trying to dial in my wide belt sander and get the sanding drums/head assembly perfectly parallel to the conveyer table. I figure that I would need some type of dial indicator that I could slide from side to side on the conveyer table under the drum/sanding head. Is this the best way to do something like this? I wonder because of the b...
