Injured at Lowes - 11 replies

Yesterday I was getting a board out of the lumber rack at Lowes. A large plastic sign with metal hangers came loose from the top of the rack. I didn’t see it coming as it fell and it hit me in the back of the hand. I shouted out a profanity as I felt the sharp pain. A blood vessel under the skin on the back of my hand ruptured. The back...

Cast Iron is Fragile - 8 replies

If you drop it, it will break. This arrived in the mail today. It was a Stanley 7 plane bottom. This rocket scientist of an eBay seller put it in the bottom of a large flat rate box. He stuffed a couple of empty small boxes on top. This seller specializes in plane parts. I’m tired of vintage tools just being thrown in a box. Wadd...

Well, it’s actually not as bad as it looks. That is a precision machinist’s square in the picture and the fence is out of square 1/...

HF 14" Bandsaw Riser Block ? - 8 replies

I picked up a used HF 14” bandsaw for $100. Researching the saw, I have found that a riser block kit is a popular modification. This increases the resaw capacity from 6” to 9”. I have a 6” jointer, so I think this modification would not be worth the money. Thoughts?

Child's Tools - 2 replies

My parents bought me a Handy Andy tool kit when I was a child. I purchased the exact kit on ebay. The kit is complete and the tools have not been used. I purchased the kit for my boys to use. The tools are fair quality. With a bit of tune-up, I think they will work fine. If you owned this kit, would you keep it as collectible and buy new t...
