Winnipeg - 2 replies

Anyone here from The Winnipeg? Where do you typically buy your hardwood limber from? I often see hardwood “wholesalers”in the U.S. such as Austin Hardwoods promoted by the Wood whisperer. Would there be a market for this kind of setup in Winnipeg?

Hi All,I am in the process of building a new house with a new dedicated shop. This week I am going over the electrical layout for it. Chambering plane irons - 7 replies

I was reading Christopher Schwarz book the Essential Hand Plane. In the book it sounds as though Chris puts a camber on nearly all of his plane irons beginning with a power grinder then moving to sharpening stones. Is there an effective way to do this without a grinder? Would a course sharpening stone or a metal file work as well? I worry about ...

Finally got my jointer set - 3 replies

My jointer and I haven’t always been a perfect team. At first I was getting boards slightly bowed, then I was getting tapers. Frustrated I even bought a One Way multi gauge to align the straight knives on it because I couldn’t come up with a better way to align the knives. I had all the knives aligned with .001 of an inch of each other (wasn’t e...

jointer outfeed table - 10 replies

I am curious at what depth most people set their outfeed table on the jointer. I’ve read various post online with conflicting information. Newwwoodworker.com recommends setting the outfeed table at the exact same height as the jointer knives while many other suggest setting the heights a few thousands of an inch below the jointer knives. ...

How to align a faceframe - 14 replies

I’m making a stand for my miter saw and wanted to add some drawers to it. I am wanting to know what is the best way for aligning a faceframe to th...

For Christmas I received a set of LV chisels and was attempting to sharpen them today. I am not expert at sharpening and I’m curious what do most of you use for flattening waterstones? My newbie mistake - 24 replies

I thought I’d share a bit of frustration with my latest project. Awhile back I made a crosscut sled for cutting cabinet parts with a fence composed of two pieces of Baltic birch laminated together. The last time I used the sled I clamped a long piece of mdf to the rear fence so I could add a stop block. The pieces I was crosscutting wer...

I am curious what needs to be done to setup a new Veritas Bench Plane? I’ve been seriously contemplating purchasing a Veritas #5 1/4 bench plane. I feel perhaps this would be a great all around plane to start with for smoothing and prep work. (Please correct me if I am wrong on this). I do own a couple hand planes already. I bought thre...

Can someone please identify the difference for me between the Bosch CS10 and Makita 7005MG? Side by side the saws are virtually identical besides some cosmetic differences. The Makita however...
