Maybe I missed a post, but does anyone know if we are having problems with people signing up for the website? We used to get about a dozen newbies a day, and now get about one a month….was wondering if there is a site sign up problem.

Table Saw Bevel - 14 replies

I have a question about beveling the edge of 3/4 walnut. I am making a small base for a project (its 5 1/2 X 7”) and I want to bevel all four of the edges at 25 degrees. I think this would be a good job for a router table or shaper, but I have neither. In the plan that I have, it suggests a table saw with a left tilt blade and then ru...

Are You Lonesome Now? - 5 replies

A divorced woodworking living in a large city decided he was just fed up with the traffic, noise, and general lack of humanitarian concern by those living around him. He decided to move to the remote hills of his state and set up shop, away from the bustel of the city. After about 6 months of living in the hills well away from anyone, he bec...

Dust Removal - 29 replies

I was just wondering what everyone uses to remove dust from your projects before finishing. I have tried vacuuming, tack cloth, and dampended rag with mineral spirits. I dont paticular like the tack cloth alone since it takes a lot of them if the project is big. I dont think vacuuming gets all of the dust. I tend to use the vac, then the rag...

ServiceMagic - 10 replies

I was wondering if anyone else out there has ever tried the service on the web called ServiceMagic.com? I always spent so much time trying to find a good contractor or repair person until a relative told me about this website. Contractors sign up to be on this site. The site shows their ratings by other customers too. You can go in there...

Big Bang Theory - 19 replies

Here is a good one for you. I was using a router with a slot cutting bit to trim one side of a dado off. From what I can determine, the router bit slipped in the collet and it got a hold of the adapter ring in the router base plate. There was a big bang. I dont think this is what they are referring to when they talk about the “Big ...

Dado Dilemma - 9 replies

I am building a cabinet using 1/4 QS white oak plywood and I would like to use a dado to hold the plywood panel between the 3/4 inch stiles. The panel will be separated by a rail in the middle of each side. The cabinet sides are just 11 inches wide so the strenght of the plywood isnt an issue. Now, if you have followed me so far, here is my...

I'm Frozen ! - 13 replies

Its time to get the next project started. I’ve waited long enough to get the lumber. I ventured out to my favorite lumber company about 15 miles from me to pick up about 45 board ft of QS white oak and a 4X8 sheet of QS white oak plywood. Its only 8 degrees here and I knew the lumber company barns are unheated. Just about froze my you ...

Bessey K Body Clamps - 7 replies

Ok, here is a simple question. For those of you that use the Bessey K Body clamps, do you use the clip on spacers they provide? I always find that after a time or two, the clips break in half when snapping them on the bar and I end up thowing them away. I never was sure just what good they were. Thanks

Who Makes A Good Oscillating Spindle Sander - 39 replies

I started to look around for a good oscillating spindle sander. What started this is that I was looking on Craigs List the other day and a guy there was selling a bench top Powermatic in excellent condition as he put it for only $75. It looked great in the picture. Unfortunately, someone called him and took it minutes before I called. It s...

I Hate Plumbing - 12 replies

I love to build things, work around the house remodeling, and fixing things, but one thing I hate is plumbing. It always seems no matter how simple the project, it always takes 10 trips to the store for parts, I can never get the old plumbing apart, and I always have leaks. The most recent was a leaky bathroom faucet. I tried to get it apar...

Squaring Cabinets and Panels - 13 replies

OK, here is an elementary question. When I build a cabinet, or panel, I always struggle with getting it perfectly square. Even though the mitered corners are good, it can still be slightly off when I measure diagonally across both sides of the piece. I was just wondering how everyone squares the cabinet up. I always seem to have trouble ...
