For some time I wanted to build my own wood duplicator for personal projects. Theres several nice duplic..tor on the market, but I wanted to build something from the floor up. I used several ideas from duplicatorss on the market and incorporated those with my own. Mainly I wanted it light in weight – so I decided to use marine grade 3/4 thick ABS which is ultra light but extremely strong and durable. All of the 30mm glide blocks, stainless steel rods, and ABS only set me back approximately $450.
Started out by cutting the ABS body parts on the bansaw, while makeing a template out of 1/4 inch plywood. I spent some time sanding the edges to perfection. Building your own duplicator from start to finish is a great way to use your skills and save money. I’m going to be sixty in May and I
rememober my woodshop teacher in junior high tell us if you can hold it in your hands you can make it. I dont know if kids think this way anymore. Getting back to the duplicator…I then took the three body components attached each one to my template and ran them on my router table too clean up the edge.
The next step was to drill all of the 30mm holes so I screwed all three body componets together so the holes where concise and consistent. Once the body components were complete I could begin assembly. Again I only wanted to build this tool one time…so I used all stainless steel hardware… its the first tool I’ve ever built…it was a great winter project
I forgot to mention the counter weight on the back to balance it out…I used #7 shotgun shot as my weight inside the cylinder and the 10” of travel down the outside arms.

Your duplicator looks very well made. I’d love to see a video of it in use.

Thank you
It works extremely well. It has a varible speed porter cable router that does all the work. Now I just have to build a table for it – when I do I’ll load a video of it in action…thanks again for the nice comment
