WIth the move in, I havnt had alot of time for things such as wood working, well my wife Sheena and I finally have our place sorted out for the most part, we’ve finished painting, now I just have to deal with some shelving, removal of nasty old furnature, and, this is the best part, creation of new furnature. It’s with this creation of new furnature in mind that I am posting this blog, last night at work, I was watching the wood whisperer podcast, love that guy. Anyways if you watched it he posted a great tool he uses called sketchup, it’s a 3d visual design/rendering program, FREE to download, you can get it at http://sketchup.google.com I downloaded that program today, and have finished designing two projects that need to be built for out house, needless to say I’m super stoked about that, now I stillneed to put some tools to the timber, BUT, having a 3d rendering of the project before I start building is an amazing feeling, I can see proportions, ect, ALSO I’ve discovered, I can do 3d layouts of the rooms in my house to figure out optimum furnature placement, and to see how a project will look where I inted to put it, maybe I’m going a little nuts, but hye, it’s freeking an awsome program, try it out and enjoy.

I haven’t taken a lot of time with the program but my question is how do you get it to provide a good view of small items. Right now all I get is house size renditions.

when you set it up, you can either set it to measure things in construction, or woodworking, so for me it’s all ininches, so I can design things the actual sizes I want them to be. I’m not sure how you would change it now though Debbie, but there has to be a way

no problem at all Debbie, now I have to warn you, you may end up designing projects, and not acutally building anything, this program is, in my opinion, that fun…

I am looking forward to getting a design program. This might be what I am looking for. Thanks Shawn.
