SCORED!!!

I’m getting close to the Big R (retirement) and have been filling the blank spaces in my tool roster, in preparation for it. I figured I’d once again try owning a “Whirling Timewaster of Despair” – a lathe! I had one several years ago and had to sell it when the piles of wood shavings exceeded the cost of the tool. I was really turning stuff . . . turning money into gerbil bedding!

But, I figured retirement would allow me the time and inclination to maybe get sorta good at it, as well as keeping out of my wife’s hair. Kept watching local-ish ads and found one ‘across the river’ in Council Bluffs, that looked mighty interesting. I’m usually fairly wary of too-good-to-be-true listings, but was bored and went to check it out.

NOT too-good-to-be-true!!! The gentleman was a pen maker and carver, who was having some health issues. They were moving into an apartment and needed to move a LOT of stuff before then. He seemed pleased it was all going to a good home and kinda “sweetened the deal”. So, as follows…
PSI Woodworking TCLPRO lathe
- Stock chuck and a Nova Midi chuck
- 3 pen mandrels
- Drill chuck
- Centering vice
- LOTS of pen making drill bits and tools
-A pen press
- 21 Benjamin’s Best lathe tools of various flavors
Woodcraft 8” slow speed bench grinder
- OneWay Wolverine grinding jig setup
- WheelEzze dressing tool
Two boxes, with (I haven’t counted them) around 150 miscellaneous pen blanks, including a $#!7 load of exotics and burls.
Oh, and a rolling 2-drawer cabinet that holds it all.

As for price . . . Let’s just say that he sold me the grinder and threw everything else in for free! His wife had three more people waiting for a call back, if I was brain-damaged enough to say no. I told him I honestly felt a little guilty about taking it all for the price he named, but he was just happy to sell it all in one pile and that it would be used and enjoyed!

wow!

You really deserve a hearty “you suck” 8^)

Enough to keep you out of SWMBO’s hair and hopefully avoid the honey-do list until you are ready

If the buyer and seller are happy with the deal, what more could anyone expect?

Chewed on some oak last evening, to kinda get a feel for my new toys. I like this little machine! Smooth and quiet operation, very stable on the cart. I think I’m gonna enjoy this!

Wow . . . I am really gonna need to need to get some live instruction and guidance from a seasoned turner! And a face shield. And a nice mat to stand on. And maybe an apron.
