Where are all the drum sanders? - 13 replies

Just curious…I can’t find a SuperMax or Jet 16/32 drum sander anywhere! It’s like the rapture occurred and all of the Lord’s children got to take a drum sander with them! I don’t frequently buy equipment, so I don’t know if this is cyclical, and by summer we’ll be awash in them. Does anyone know where to find a good drum sander?

Belt sander for end grain boards? - 14 replies

Hello,I am about done trying to plane end grain boards reasonably flat with a low angle plane, and I can’t see pulling the trigger on a drum sander. Does anyone have experience using a handheld belt sander for end grain cutting boards? Thanks! One more thing…Pull up your pants, take off that bra, AND BE A MAN!

Bow on end of endgrain board - 3 replies

Hi everyone. I am trying to learn to make real big-boy cutting boards. When I cut the face grain pieces perpendicularly to make the slices of endgrain board, I end up with spaces on the left and right ends that result in a bowing effect at the edges. I’ve attached a picture to show the bowing referenced to a straight edge on my bench. It’s ju...

End grain / planer - 11 replies

I’m probably going to set off a debate almost as big as if I had said what I was thinking about the dog that chewed up the door in another forum topic. I have seen videos of people gluing sacrificial pieces to end grain cutting boards to run them through a planer. I’ve heard it works with a true helical cutter head. I have also heard the ho...

Plans for end grain boards - 13 replies

Hi Everyone,I may be missing the forest because of all the trees, but I am looking for step by step plans for 3-D end grain cutting boards. There are several videos online, but they are usually metric, and hard to understand. I’m the type who needs real specific instructions the first time or two. Anyone know where to find plans for 3-D End G...

DeWalt 12” Miter Saw trouble - 3 replies

Hi Everyone,My 10 yr old dewalt miter saw started making a grinding / rattling noise recently. I wrote it off as just noisyDeWalt motors. Now the blade takes a while to spin up, and gets hung up on just about any load. Then it spins freely as it’s winding down. Are these common symptoms of any particular problem? I’m hoping they are symptom...

Incra fence with Bench Dog router table - 8 replies

I’m wondering if any of you have mounted an Incra system to a cast iron router table? I’m not crazy about the idea of drilling into the cast iron. Does anyone have a better idea?

Benchtop composition - 23 replies

Hi everyone,I’m trying to build a first serious workbench. I’m weighing the differences between a solid core slab door, layers of plywood, or laminated hardwood for a top. Most doors are around 1.75” thick, same with prefab wood countertops. I’m concerned about sag and the ability to attach a vise given the fill material of the door. I’m int...

Lathe stand on casters...yes or no? - 16 replies

After several weeks of waiting, my Laguna 12/16 finally arrived. Now I need to build a stand for it. Will casters detract from the stability? I plan on adding some sort of ballast for added weight. The mobility would be handy, but not at the expense of stability. Any feedback wold be appreciated.

Laguna Revo 12/16 vs Grizzly G0632 - 6 replies

Hi everyone. I’m looking to upgrade from a Steel City 10/16. I want the power and swing to turn larger bowls, but how much swing is enough? Is it like megapixels on a camera, after a few zillion, it really doesn’t matter? The new Laguna with an optional outboard extension looks good (16” swing), but once I start hanging ornaments on that tre...

Power cord for 220 vac conversion - 18 replies

I recently moved to a house with a 4 prong 220 vac outlet in the garage. I’d like to use this for either my Laguna Fusion TS or Delta 50-850 dust collector. I learned a long time ago that things are never as straight forward as they ought to be, so I am wondering if there is a problem with using a 4 prong appliance cord to connect the outlet t...

Slow start, switch won’t engage on 110 outlet - 10 replies

Anyone out there know what could cause slow spin up on my saws, and an inability of the switch to engage on my Laguna Fusion TS? New house, and some funky wiring issues discovered, i.e, one wall of outlets in garage are tied to master bath GFCI at the other end of the house! I get roughly 120 vac on both hot to common, and hot to ground.

Shop location - 14 replies

I’m curious if anyone has ever put a wood shop in a bonus room over the garage. I have a basement right now, but am buying a house, and basements are a very limiting search feature in NC. I’d consider part of a 3 gar garage also, but would be concerned about the effects of tempature extremes on equipment and me! A separate shop really isn’t a...

Violent kickbacks when cutting trim miters on tablesaw - 59 replies

For some reason when I try to cut a 45 in a piece of maple beading, the cutoff gets kicked back. This has happened a few times today, and if I hadn’t been standing to the side, would have been serious. I’m sure this is a technique issue. Can anyone help?

Promax router table plate leveling screws loosen with vibration - 10 replies

Hello,Before I turn any more maple into smoking blocks for the grill, I need advice. Has anyone else had trouble with router plate leveling screws loosening with the vibration of using the router? It’s not a gradual thing. They drop 1/16” or more with each use! I’m hoping this is just something I have done incorrectly in se...

Laguna Fusion vs Grizzly G0833P - 3 replies

The book of proverbs, or maybe its just my Dad, says, “there is wisdom in the council of many”, so lay it on me! I’ve narrowed it down to these two saws. I make some furniture and need to bump up from the DW job site saw before it’s small table kills me. If there’s a saw I’m overlooking please feel free to ...

Turning travel mugs--insulation question - 0 replies

I have turned a few of the travel coffee mugs with the stainless steel inserts. My problem is that they don’t seem to keep coffee warm for very long. Have any of y’all had any success with some form of added insulation? There isn’t a lot of room to work with in there.

Plywood bottom for chest of drawers - 5 replies

I am making a chest of drawers from hard maple. I have glued up panels for the top, sides and back. The end grain is on the top and bottom of the side panels. Considering wood movement, can I attach a plywood panel to the bottom? How do I need to accommodate the wood movement? The panel would mount inside the span, with the end grain expose...

Cart for super dust deputy retrofit - 1 reply

Does anyone out there know of a good plan to retrofit a super dust deputy to a Delta 50-850? I’d like to mount the blower directly above the seperator, and have a direct line from the exhaust to the filter and bag. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Removing restrict or plate on 6" opening -- delta 50-850 - 1 reply

I am thinking of removing the plate that reduces the opening to the blower on my delta 50-850. It would make for a 6” opening which would draw from the 6” opening of a super dust deputy. Is there a downside to this that I don’t yet understand? Thanks!
