« Part 1: Disassembly Part 2 of Makita 2040 Planer Restoration series no next part

Seems like I’m always working on too many restoration projects at once. I guess one benefit is I can order parts for multiple projects and save on shipping.

So although I’m not actively working on this I do need to buy some parts from Grizzly and I just happened to find some handwheels that look like a good replacement. Even the bore is a perfect match. I just need to know what diameter the original one is since grizzly stocks a couple sizes. Does anybody have one of these planers?

You can see in the pic below, the previous owner’s attempt at fashioning a replacement handwheel out of wood.

This is what the handwheel looks like ($28):

This is the grizzly version ($7.75):

I have a Makita Model 2030 that has the same set up. The hand wheel is 7” dia. .

Sarit I bought a makita 2030 to restore a couple of years ago.
One of the list of things I need to replace is the same hand wheel.
The cheap plastic wheels that were used on these machines just don’t hold up.
What are your plans with your machine?

I think I emailed grizzly and the inner diameter was wrong. I haven’t figured out what to do in the mean time.

Good day eh! I have several parts still available. I will make a list and post what’s available shortly.

Have your say...
