notes : finished intarsia ,
I used 1/4 " solid oak for the figure and clouds . 3/16 " solid birch ( craft sticks ) for rain . Discarded
quite a few of the craft sticks at the start . Some have the same kinds of variable defects you would find in
larger lumber . I like to lay them out and play around with them and make sure they are flat and
straight .

They have a light water based stain . I primed the pieces , experimenting with the arrangement of
every thing but the central figure , and some effects and shading of how i would do the finish
coat on the 'rain ' ............as shown here :

After priming , I painted a base coat of royal blue , then the final detail painting . The sides of the
birch had to be painted also ( each one). The true color of the rain and clouds final coat is best seen in this image :

I had an idea for a scene that would compliment these doors so I reached for a
sheet of copy paper and drew the figure , i wanted a figure that was catching
a ' raindrop ' and that the rain would be flowing through through the fingers . That was my
only fixed point of design ,everything else was pretty fluid and changing as I went along .
All that remains is the cabinet design. Probably four legs w/ arched top .
