Like the spiral pendant, my plan is to use cherry for the ribs and top and bottom caps, anigre veneer, and a BB ply ring as the base for the removable bottom cap.

I started out cutting out the ribs. The bottom rib in the photo has slightly wider slots – this is where the overlapping ends of the veneer strip will be hidden.

The bottom of the lamp needs to be open to provide access to the socket, and the BB ply ring provides some strength even though it looks a little fragile.

The edge of the ring has recesses for some small magnets that will hold the decorative bottom cover. Each tab on the ribs requires a little sanding to round-over the edge that fits into the ply ring.

All parts are just being dry-fitted so that I can check proportions before gluing anything.

Since the top cap will not be visible on these lamps, I made them as open as possible to not block the light.

And there’s the basic structure.
