Needing a Couple Rasps - 17 replies

I have a project coming up and will need a couple Rasps. I will need a half round probably coarse and medium. There are so many and some too expensive for me. Can someone recommend reasonably priced ones and best place to buy. I saw that Kutzall makes some. Anyone with experience? Also, are the Sureform Rasps useful.

Newspaper Subscription Rant - 19 replies

My wife does the bills and recently showed me the subscription for the paper in Northwest Indiana. She also had the bill from a year ago showing the subscription was paid for 52 weeks. The new bill showed that the subscription ended several weeks earlier than the newspaper originally stated. My wife does the paperwork on the bills but gives m...

I have decided I want to build a rocker and take a class. So far, I am seriously considering either Hal Taylor or Bill Kappel. Both have posted beautiful rockers on LJ. Anyone with personal experience with either of these? Or another suggestion?

Shop Stools - 4 replies

A couple of times a year we see a bunch of stools or clocks posted on the project page. This is the result of a high school shop class in Wahoo, Nebraska. It is so great to see young people doing woodworking and not just watching their phones. So many schools have given up shop classes and it is a good thing to see one school keeping them. ...

Dust Deputy Static Pressure Loss 2.5" - 4 replies

I read so many articles about modifying the HF dust collector. However, few to none of them provide data on the effect on Static Pressure. While most people are only interested in flow, cfm, it is difficult to measure. It is much easier and more accurate to measure static pressure. Has anyone actually measured the static pressure loss with...

Weird Links - 16 replies

I have been getting some weird links in many of the posts. I do not think the authors are putting them in but they show up on various words and are links to advertisers. This only shows up on LJ and not on any other forum I belong to. It shows up on both my tablet and computer. Below is an example of what I am talking about. How do I get ...

Cancel Vacation to St. Louis - 11 replies

I had planned a vacatin to St. Louis next week and looked forward to going to the zoo, museum, botanical gardens and other places in the city. There is a lot of things to do. After reading this morning about the riots and plans for more “actions” by masked Antigua activists, I cancelled my plans. I feel sorry for many working p...

I want to build a Bluetooth speaker for my shop with 4” speakers. I have to admit that I know very little about the boards and parts. Can someone who has actually built one recommend a specific Bluetooth board and amplifier, speakers, and controls. I have found various boards and some have built in control buttons and others requir...

Surge Protector for Drill Press - 2 replies

I just bought the Nova Voyager DVR Drill Press. The manual says to use a surge protector because of the electronics. Is there any special type of surge protector or just anyone rated for 15 amps. Do people who have the Nova lathe use a surge protector.

Which Drill Press?? - 6 replies

I have had a Jet floor model drill press for 10 years or so. It is Model JDP-17MF. It has been pretty good but lately I am not very happy with it. I measured run out on a large drill bit and get about +/- 0.004” which is OK. However, like many drill presses like this, the quill is loose. If I measure the run out of the quill only, ...

Hole Drill Size and Drill Press - 10 replies

I have a Jet floor drill press with a 3/4 hp motor. I want to use a large hole drill to cut 4” circles from 3/4” plywood. Is this too much for the drill press? I would use a fairly low speed and secure the plywood. I need to do about 20 or a few more. Of course, I could also cut them on the band saw but would have to spend m...

The Drum....Homemade Thickness Sander - 4 replies

I am going to build a homemade thickness sander like Shipwright has done. I have read a lot of the posted projects and online plans. People have made the drum from PVC, MDF, plywood, and hardwood. I do not like the idea of hardwood due to potential issues with dimensions changing with humidity. I have some minor concerns with PVC pipe due ...

Adding a Video - 1 reply

I recently posted a project of the Dynamo Men but did not know how to add a video and really did not want to go the YouTube route. Woodshaver (Tony) posted a blog on how to create an animated GIF which you make from your video and then can post it. It works great. Many thanks to him for the helpful blog.
