I’m new to hand planes so I wanted to start with fixer uppers because I feel like the end result is the effort you put into it. I picked up a Stanley Bailey #4 and Millers Falls #9? For $40/pair. This is just the start with the Bailey and all I have done so far is a bath in Evapo Rust. More pics and progress to come. Any pointers are welcome as this is new to me.

That Stanley looks to be in good shape and will make a fine plane. Get your sharpening gear and process in order, lots of info and ways to get it sharp, but that may be the most important part.

I recently restored the same plane. Lots of info online to bring it back to working order. A nice sharp iron and it will be a workhorse.

@ Don W I notice you have a small hand plane addiction. Can you recommend somewhere online to buy plane parts without the bidding and waiting of EBay? This plane in particular I need a Frog bolt (was going to get 2) and I need the bolt that goes on the back bottom of the Frog which I believe is a Frog adjusting screw.

There are some links here http://lumberjocks.com/donwilwol/blog/24092 to some suppliers. You can also ask on the “hand plane of your dreams” thread. Often somebody has the piece you need and will make a good deal.
New Hampshire plane parts sells on eBay and usually does buy it now. Send him a message if you don’t see what you want.
