I retired from military service after 27 years. I recently retired from my second career, though I do take on short term consulting projects.
I am a hobby woodworker and consider myself to be of intermediate skill, with a long way to go to reach the upper tier. My projects range all over the place from some furniture restoration to bandsaw boxes to tables, chairs, cabinets, TV stands. I'm easily distracted and do those things that interest me. Occasionally, that results in commission work.
I got started in woodworking by watching New Yankee Workshop for many years. About 22 years ago, I decided to stop watching and start doing. I started learning at the wood hobby shop at my military base where I had access to excellent machines that were kept in top shape and well tuned. I started my shop about 20 years ago when I moved to another base without a good wood shop, and it took me about 15 years to put together.
Other interests include gardening and fishing. I have a small fishing boat that I bought last Summer, and it's becoming an interest to see how far I can take a small 40 year-old Lund and make a decent fishing rig out of it for the lowest reasonable cost.
