So, it is time for my boys to get their own room. They are getting too big for their cribs, and I need to finish that spare bedroom for them so they can have their own space. We have a small cape cod home, originally 4 bedrooms when we moved in, but we made it 3, creating a master bedroom downstairs by combining the 2 smaller rooms.
Upstairs there are 2 bedrooms, shaped like a plus symbol, and a small half bath (currently unusable as well). The bath will be a project for another day. For now, I need that room up and working. So far, we stripped it to the studs, new electric, added insulation, and repaired the rafters above. (as to that picture)
I am at that point building the bookshelves that will use some of the unusable space where the roof comes too low. This will give good storage seeing as I cannot find a good place for a closet. NOTE: the ceiling height is only six foot two inches tall. so now to build some shelves, 3/4 inch ply for strength, and I am making them 2 foot deep for the bottom two, and 1 foot for the top one. Six foot is the length of my space for them so I will make it as big as possible. I also will add a center brace in the lower two shelves for support for heavier items above. I believe this should be strong enough for anything my boys will put into it.!
So here is the shelf frames. I also have taken pictures with the backs added, but have not loaded them onto my computer yet. I will also take some new pictures of our progress for my next post, as we have applied all the drywall since these pictures were taken. I am currently mudding the drywall (I’m defiantly not a pro at mudding yet, but it usually comes out pretty well). I will also get some pictures of the progress from here out. Thanks everyone for looking at my project in progress. I am always happy to learn something new!
My next project after the room is done will be my boys storage platform beds. YES I choose to make them myself instead of buying something cheap.

What a mess! I hope the boys will finally move to their room soon!
The book shelf looks nice just a perfect fit under the roof which comes low.
Here is my dad, I took a picture of him while we were making table for the living room. I hope soon I will upload the pic of ready table.
