« Part 6: Holdem Holdem Part 7 of Whiskey Tango F.. Box series no next part

This project will have a main cabinet that would have a floating appearance, and will sit on top of a single drawer lower cabinet. For the floating look design I ended up going with 4 spacers with bolts going through them that will bolt from the underside of the lower drawer cabinet (hidden by the drawer) and threaded into the bottom of the upper cabinet.

I found a few plastic spacers (I think they were part of a TV wall mount that were never used), and enlarged the holes to fit some 1/4-20 bolts I had as leftover for some other projects (the motif of this entire project is left over materials that I held onto for many years)

I used the upper cabinet to take some measurements from both sides and back (which are the 3 surfaces I can register both parts to (front is different). and drilled partially through the material using a painters tape depth guide .As you drill, sawdust accumulates around the hole, and as the tape reaches the surface of the board, it pushes all the sawdust away, so you get depth gauge and cleaner all in once (win win):

This was with a 7/32 drill so that the bolt thread will grab and provide a good hold. for the lower part, I transferred the measurements and drilled with 3/8 so I’ll have some jiggle room for the bolt to move about and fine position the 2 parts as well as give myself some error buffer on accuracy of hand held drilled holes:

using a washer and a wrench, I pulled the bolts through the lower part and bolted it into the upper part. I turned this whole thing upside down to make this easier, albeit it made the lower part on top, and upper part on the bottom :)

turned it back upside up, and… time to put it to good use

and here is the project:
