I'm 67 now and have been carving, sculpting, turning, building, and designing with wood seriously since I came home from the Army (1970). I designed and built a bowl turning lathe in the early 1980's and kept myself busy with it for too long. It was the first edition of several power tools built under the name of the "Snappy-Ass" tool co. I enjoy lumberjocks site and making friends here that I can share tricks and secrets with that I've picked up over the years...It is fulfilling and a learning process as well. Update ....I am 71 now and have had to build the Snappy-Ass Tool Co. Lathe #2 out of necessity called the "Red Ryder" an explanation for the name will be forthcoming. Hopefully so will some new work....I've been remodeling the house and overseeing the building of screened in porches etc for far too long....Now 74+ and using a Revo 18-36 lathe equipped with casters, an improvised chair for back support, and light system....Nice .....very nice...I have converted a California Air 5 gal. paint pot into a dedicated pressure pot for casting and have been casting my own Hybrid bowl blanks....this old dog is having fun...It takes way too long to complete a vessel now. I have stopped selling ALL works through local museum and galleries. I refuse to sell anything now. If a venue has space for a permanent addition to their collection , I will donate work to them , provided they have a permanent or rotating viewing policy. My last donation (a walnut 16"x24" relief sculpture) went to Yomitan Prefecture, Okinawa, Japan. Now that feels good ! I cannot rely on health and strength any longer, but I stay awake nights thinking of new applications and shapes for Hybrid blanks.

this is a cut and paste post from Dick Bird AKA recycle1943

reporting Dons demise.

He should be in the In Memoriam as a sign of respect however its not possible yet.

So here are the facts:-

It’s with a sad heart that I post pictures of these two bowls. Both vessels were at the hand of a very talented turner and teacher named Don Schneider of Havana Florida aka Porchfish. In my quest to find his number and talk to Don I was informed he passed away last July 16. His wife Mary told me that had been ill for some time and in May he was told he had but weeks to live.
I’m not only sad of his passing but more so that I didn’t take the time to give credit where credit is due before it was too late.
So guy’s if there’s something that needs to be said, say it before the opportunity dissapears
