Trouble Replacing Bandsaw Thrust Bearings - 8 replies

I have a Ryobi BS901 9” bandsaw and want to change the thrust bearings. I called Ryobi and was told they are press fit. I cannot come up with a way to remove the old ones so I can install the new ones. They suggested taking them to an authorized service center which I may end up doing if I can’t do it myself. Any help is appreciated.

DeWalt ROS - Buffing Pad? - 5 replies

I have a DeWalt ROS (D26453K) and would like to know if there’s a compatible buffing pad for it so that I can buff out paste wax on my table saw, jointer, etc. I wouldn’t use a dedicated buffer enough to justify buying one so am looking for an alternative.

UHMW Binding - how to resolve? - 16 replies

I’m in the process of building the Eagle Woodworking Super Sled. The UHMW I bought works great and slides perfectly in the miter slots by itself. When I screw this to the 1/2” plywood base it binds so terribly that the sled barely moves and is unusable. I’ve tried #8-1/2” FH and #6-5/8” FH screws and the result i...

Need Your Ideas - How can I build a Balance? - 4 replies

I’ve been asked by someone at my church to come up with an idea and build a scale that will be used by the Kid’s program as part of a game they will play. The kids will be put into teams and they will put their team’s offering money on one side of the scale, the other team on the other side. Obviously the goal is to be on the...

Freud DD208 Dado Set - 3 replies

Yesterday while paying a visit to the big Orange store, I saw they had a Freud DD208 Dado set (~$95). This is the Freud Diablo brand which I wasn’t really familiar with. I’ve mostly had my eye on an SD208 or SD508 so I was surprised to find this DD208. Anyone have any experience with it? I’m wanting an 8” dado set t...

TRANE HVAC Owners - Need Your Opinions - 4 replies

My 10+ yr old builder grade HVAC is about to expire. Actually, it died this week but we’ve been able to fix it temporarily. I’m considering going with a whole house TRANE units, the XB13 line. If you own a TRANE, I’d like to hear the good, bad and ugly in your own experience.

Roundover Bits - When To Use Which Size? - 4 replies

Let’s say I buy a set of roundover bits that contains sizes 1/8”, 3/16”, 1/4”, 5/16”, 3/8”, 1/2”, 3/4”. For a roundover edge profile, would I normally pick the size that is around half of my stock thickness? I also understand that roundover bits can be used for beading as well but I’m not ...

Router Bits - Help Me Spend $$ - 8 replies

I want to buy some router bits and would like to get some input from all of you. First of all, when it comes to routers I am somewhat of a newbie. The majority of my experience has been with edge profiling and messing around with my Incra jig. Now I want to make my router a more prominent tool in my shop so I’m wanting to use it for joi...

Need advice - building shop & garage cabinets - 22 replies

I just joined LJ today and have posted a few of my pieces. As you will tell from the pics, my woodworking experience has been limited mostly to smaller scale projects. I want to learn how to properly build cabinets and starting with my woodshop and garage seems somewhat safe (if I mess up it doesn’t really matter much). Better organizat...
