no previous part Part 1 of Another foundry pattern series Part 2: This is what it "patterned" »

Two days before Christmas, a design engineer from a medical equipment manufacturer walked our shop lugging a heavy welded fabrication. It was a prototype for the base of a large, medical equipment stand. The engineer had to have a cast aluminum version of the base to be in Las Vegas by the 2nd week of January.

He wanted his model used to machine a pattern from aluminum and make him a casting ASAP…...(In two weeks…over the holidays!)

A 14 inch thick billet is not a stock item, plus it would take days to whittle it down.

We explained that we might be able to meet his due date if we built a traditional wood master pattern and used it to cast a match plate.

I am going to let the pics speak for themselves…but don’t hesitate to ask any questions.

Nope, you are not snow blind. I had to stop for the evening. Perhaps you heard this one before, “Honey, are still on that stupid computer???”

Have your say...
