My wife found an armoire on facebook marketplace for $40 and presented it to me to “clean up”.

They had separated the top and bottom, and in the process manage to destroy the front brace on the bottom piece:

Each end:

I was able to square up each end on the drawer piece with judicious use of a chisel and Japanese saw. Cut a piece of maple to replace the busted span. Then I cut some thin slivers off of the busted piece as a veneer over the destroy part. It came out okay. I was trying to avoid sanding down the original parts that were undamaged.

The back was gone too on the hutch part, so I replaced it with a piece of 1/4” plywood stained to (mostly) match.

And finally, the roller door catches on the bottom were missing, got some replacements off Amazon.

Wife seems happy with it, so good enough!

Have your say...
