This being President's Day, I am reminded of an incident which occurred fifty years ago. Back then, we called it "George Washington's Birthday". Most retail establishments had "sales" on Washington's Birthday. My parents took me along with them to shop at a furniture store. A salesman was stationed just inside the vestibule of the store. His assignment on that day was to hand out HATCHETS to any kid who came into the store. Yes, hatchets. Granted, it was "dull as a froe", but it was a hatchet, nonetheless. Can you imagine such a thing in today's world?
That hatchet was in the family for years before getting lost in a move. No, I never did chop down a cherry tree with it. LOL
