I'm an old guy with a fair amount of lathe (mostly spindle turning) experience about a hundred-years ago. I've been a woodworker all my life and have had a small midi lathe for several years which has been used mostly for small in-shop projects. I've always had a yearning to try my hand at bowl turning and other more interesting projects but have put it off because of other of life's more demanding necessities. Several weeks ago me darlin' wife says: "If you don't soon get yourself a lathe you're going to end up too dead to enjoy one... buy it." So, two-days ago I took delivery on a new Grizzly G0766. I'm in the process of getting my other machines moved around so I have space to set this beast up to get started making some shavings before I'm "too dead to enjoy it."

Other than woodworking I do a little fishing. I used to love hunting and building black powder rifles but had to give the hunting up when my knees and ankles wouldn't let me stomp around the mountains anymore. If I had known how much fun it is getting old I think I would have started eartlier.

Corps? What Corps?

Oh, you must mean “The One”, The Big Green Machine? How did you know? :-)

December 1958 till Now! and still counting. Active Duty back during the last days of M-1 Garands, 1911s, and leftover WW2 cigarettes in boot camp. And you?

Yes I’m a “Hollywood Marine”. Didn’t get any shorts or pith helmet though. Guess they were out. lol I stayed in for 9 years and then got out. I made Ssgt before I got out and was up for Gunny but I got out instead. My wife was with me through almost all of it. We’ll be celebrating 40 years this July. Wouldn’t trade her for anything. She’s a true “Marine wife”. As for ya’ll moving to Texas I’d say come on down. You’re not gonna find a place where they don’t have some kind of disaster potential. Be it tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, etc. We live out in the sticks near a few small towns on three acres and folks around here tend to stick together and help each other out as much as they can. We like that. Always room for a brother here. Semper Fi and Ooorah! And I’m guessing that your name is Walter Dellinger? If so thank you for the kind donation brother. My name is Brian Cook. Every bit helps. Alot!

Have your say...
