OldBarnWoodshop's Workshop

Old Barn Woodshop is in SW Ohio, located in an 1830’s bank barn.

The shop is located under the hay loft. Ceiling is a mix of bark on logs, split rail joists with lap laid live edge boards forming the floor of the loft above. The loft allows for storage of lumber above the shop till it’s needed.
At one time this area housed four horse stalls, unfortunately manure and urine ruined the original 2” x 14” white oak floor. Original floor beams were in good shape, bark on oak logs flattened on one side. I refloored with 2×8 tongue and groove flooring.
Walls, I lined the inside of the 1×12 siding with pressure treated plywood. Then framed between all of the hand hewn oak beams with 2×2 framing so the beams remain exposed, then 2” foam board covered with reclaimed ship lap barn siding salvaged from a barn in Indiana.
Windows on side wall are reclaimed stain glass windows.
When I started framing the front wall of shop I discovered wood rot between the original front wall of barn and a well house added at a later date. I removed the well house and resided front wall with rough cut 1×12 siding and reclaimed craftsman style windows. Poured new concrete, then used the metal from the well house roof to build a covered porch.
I added a before/after photos of front of barn.
Ran underground 100amp service to barn, adding a Mitsubishi Mini-split heat pump for A/C & heat.
Roughly a 2 year project to restore the barn and build out the shop.

OldBarn- That looks like a great place to spend some time! Also looks like you have all the toys you need….the only thing lacking is sawdust! Thanks for showing!

Nice shop. Plenty of room. Perhaps one day I’ll be as well equipped as you and maybe even some skill to go with them!
