Clamping cauls are superior to dowels and biscuits for aligning panel glue ups. No, they don’t align the ends of the boards, but biscuits have too much play to do so, and have too much play to align the board edges. Dowels will align the ends, but you need one every 10-12 inches to get the edges to align, and good luck hammering all your pieces together. Part 2: Wood EMC (equilibrium moisture content) for the USA

This chart shows wood EMC for all states and multiple state locations in some cases. Based on 30 years of humidity and temperature data, this is also a useful predictor of relative drying times/rates in different parts of the country. Drier areas will need more moisture barrier between the wood and air to slow evaporation rate to prevent checking/cracking. References are listed in the picture of the table.
