Peter, the back is ship lapped, and then I beveled the edges to give it a little shadow line. Thank you for the nice comments.

I am planning to build a downdraft table. I saw your comment on a downdraft table and the idea you propose sounds really interesting. I have not seen anything close to this concept anywhere else.
Question: Did you ever follow up on this or actually build one and if so how did it work and what dimentions did you use?
