I am a retired Nuclear Power worker. I began woodworking when I was in grammar school with my father. I continued developing my woodworking skills through high school. I went to a technical high school and graduated as a machinist. After high school I worked for a lumber company then I joined the military. After 4 years in the military I got a job at a fairly large cabinetmaking company building custom kitchens. I assembled cabinets for about a year then I transferred to the finishing shop. I shortly became the primary sprayer for the company. I quit the company and started my career in Nuclear Power (Electrician, procedure writer, electrical planner and finally senior surveillance planner).

During my career in Nuclear Power I started a small woodworking shop. That lasted only a couple of years as my main source of income consumed most of my time (overtime hours).

Over the years I added to my house a family room, 2-1/2 car garage, large shed, cabana, large pavilion, sun room, vinyl sided my home and many other projects around the house.

Now that I'm retired I decided to enhance as well as complete my woodworking shop. My entire walk out basement is my shop. In the near future I intent to post pictures of my shop and I'm always looking for ways to improve my shop as well as my skills.

I am presently planning to built an entire kitchen for my son who lives on Staten Island. Cabinet construction should start next week. Estimated project duration around three months.

Welcome Norm. I’m also a retired nuke, and I’m well aware of the work hours you describe. Somehow, I was maintain the hobby and passion for woodworking. I considered it therapeutic.

Anyways, that’s some great looking projects you’ve made. Looking forward to seeing the next ones.
