Why spend money on buying t-tracks, when you can cut your own t-slots, or make your own t-tracks, using specialized router bits? I demo a $14 bit, and a $35 bit. Believe it or not, I like the cheaper one better!
Includes tips for sharpening router bits, and setting router table fence distance.

dan i just dont think tracks cut into my table tops are going to hold up under heavy use for the long haul,i just trust the metal for long term.good idea though.

Depends on what you use them for. I agree that if they’re going to be under a lot of stress, then they may not hold up. But for everything else, I don’t see any reason for them not to work great.

Thanks. I had meant to talk more about things like expansion, and durability, and that this may or may not be the best idea, but I kind of got distracted by something else, and forgot about it. Oh well, no such thing as a perfect video. ;p

I tried cutting T slots into the MDF spoil board of my CNC router using the Rockler bit. My experiment was a failure. The shoulders of the slot aren’t nearly strong enough for the application.
