DON’T MISS THE WARNING AT THE END OF THE VIDEO! Well, it took an entire week to get here, but we are finally applying a couple rust-preventative treatments on my Shopsmith jointer. Since we first talked about this I have expanded from my original pan of applying a 50/50 blend of oil-based polyurethane and mineral spirits to doing a test of that, as well as water-based poly AND an interesting product called “Penetrol”. Regardless of the topcoat used I always use some form of wax as the sacrificial surface and to keep the tables slick. In our mid-week follow-up episode of STUMPED? Q&A we’ll talk more about these products and apply a couple of them.
