Journey into Woodturning #92: Mushroom Nutcracker
This project was a suggestion from a friend who saw an imagine somewhere. I thought, yeah I could do that. Then I thought some more, that’s actually going to be a challenge. I was determined to make this happen, success or fail. First I needed to find the right wood, at the right size. I ended up with cherry for the base, maple for the top and padauk for the spindle/threaded crusher. The cherry base came together quickly and easily. Beautiful wood to work. However the tap for threading the inside was not as easy. I had to take it off the lathe and attach it to the vise to grip it hard enough for threading.
