I did one for a friend years ago. Simple case with a back, face frame, and Simi inset glass doors.
Did the semi inset to aid in dust seal.
There were narrow glass shelves that the shot glasses sat on. Used coated pins so the shelves could be removed easily for cleaning
As I recall I used lot of biscuits on the case and face frame. Many more than really needed, but that was before we all had the pocket screw tools.
I did put in some hockey puck lights to reflect through the glass shelves, but todays LED’s would be a better choice.
I hope this gives you some ideas … looking forward to see what you come up with.

I have made several shot glass display cases. My favorite style is like a shadow box with acrylic shelves and dividers and a mirror for the back panel. The front panel is also acrylic and is made to slide up (to load case) then back down to effectively seal out dust. It can be wall hung or with small feet can set on a level surface. If you are interested in this design or type. Send a PM for more infro.

How about a shot glass case with a whiskey bottle shape?
