New DeWalt RAS - 12 replies

I picked up a very nice DeWalt MBC a week ago and just had dropped off. It is very clean and all original and for a machine from 1955 in remarkable shape. 1/2hp 8” blade and came with a couple of dado heads, original arbor wrench and a couple of grinder wheels. I will not completely replace my SCMS as it is not as portable but for the shop...

Interesting find..... - 16 replies

My wife and I bought a new home 6 years ago and after 6 months of construction we were ready to move in. The home is your cookie cutter tract home in a nice area of town. It is not the Taj Majal nor is it a single wide trailer with polyester curtains and the redwood deck either. We decided that we would have the home built with contractor gra...

I am in the drawing and planning phase of a new solid maple workbench. I have purchased the materials, thanks to John Ormsby, and have begun to draw the plans. New wood species to me - 8 replies

I am currently hanging out on the central coast on the Peoples Republik of Kalifornia for the next few days. While here I thought I would seek out some different and maybe unusual lumber for a few projects I have in the back of my head. Now my wife think I already have enough wood and projects to keep me busy for the next 10 years. So. I told he...

Drawbored mortise and tenon - 5 replies

I am in the planning stages of a new maple workbench. I have already purchased the materials, some very nice 8/4 soft maple from another LJ. I would like to use mortise and tenons to connect the stretchers to the legs and want to drawbore the joint. My question is how far should I offset the hole in the tenon? Is there any set distance, or is it...

Kapex.......worth the outrageous price? - 20 replies

I told myself I would never pay the astronomical prices for Festool products when they first hit the market a few years ago. However, I am really tired of the POS Craftsman SCMS I have. My review of my current saw is here. I am curious if there are other LJ’s that have shelled out the $1300 for the Kapex and how they feel about the purchas...

Taking a few days to relax - 16 replies

Last tuesday the 22nd my mother passed away at the age of 83. She was a great person and I could have not asked for anyone better. So, we decided to take a few days and relax, after all the past few weeks have been very tiring, both physically and mentally. I was hoping I would never have to make the decisions I did regarding her wishes at the e...
