Part 1: or - We Interrupt This Program To Make An Exciting Announcement

11-02-2015 10:13 PM by Mark Wilson | 19 comments »

Eight O’Clock this morning I’m awakened by a phone call. (I had gone to bed a little after five). We were expecting a crew to show up about nine to remove the old asbestos ductwork from the attic. Dad was up, and in the kitchen, where the noisy part of the doorbell lives. He didn’t hear it. Hence, the phone call that awakened me. “Would you please answer the door? Our guys are outside,” queries the caller. “Okay,” says me. I get up, let the guys in, g...

Part 2: Mexican Fan Palm Trunk Chunks

12-02-2015 11:18 PM by Mark Wilson | 18 comments »

The subject: The Muse: Kevin Mcneally These two Mexican Fan Palms have graced my neighborhood’s sunsets, and moonscapes for decades. The neighbor decided she didn’t want them anymore. they were cut down today. I brought home a handful of foot-and-a-half long, ten- to -twelve-inch diameter chunks, and one about three-and-a-half feet long. Some of you really smart Buddies, I’m sure, can tell me what I need to do to use...

Part 3: - OR - What Did You Do With YourOwnBadSelf Between 11 & 1 Today?

I got a backache. That’s what I did. First, there was the call of the mighty chainsaws. I scanned the horizon (the rooftops across the street). I saw a man in a basket. I witnessed parts of that Eucalyptus tree around the corner, succumbing and being overtaken by gravity. I walked around the corner, eyes in a glaze. Immediately, one of the guys walks up to me. “You want some of this wood?” saith he.I opened my mouth, and spake these words:“I want most , if not all o...

I painted the ends with primer/sealer. It’s all stacked up in the back now. Except for the two big trunk chunks. They aren’t going anywhere til I have at least one working chainsaw. I did have to wrestle them apart to paint the ends that were stuck together. I also moved the big Maple stick that was on the parkway. No help. No help at all. Me, a fulcrum, a lever, and an industrial hand truck. That thing was at least 500 pounds. And, you may have noticed that there was nothing squa...

Part 5: What RBS Brought for Me Today

12-08-2016 08:41 PM by Mark Wilson | 23 comments »

RBS (Really Big Thithter), and the kid she married about a hundred years ago, make one or two sojourns to Jerusalem, for a few months. Now, the last time the woman brought me a piece of wood, you may recall, it was a decrepit fence post she found walking around in the woods in Oregon. That score was a bust because it was just too punky to make any use of.I just picked her up at LAX. We get home and I bring her suitcase in the house. She says, “I have something for you in here.” Wh...

Part 6: Update to Score! #4

07-09-2017 02:52 AM by Mark Wilson | 8 comments » The logs on the parkway, next to my Silverado, have to go, soon. Dad wants to get sprinklers and sod installed. The logs have checked badly. NOTE: PRIMER/SEALER DOES NOT SEAL LOGS.How cracked-through the logs are, I have no way of knowing without cutting into them. When these beasts (at least 1000 lbs apiece) landed where they rest, I envisioned slabbing them for table material. My log-cutting apparatus consists of a 24” chainsaw with a cross...
