I thought about simply putting these photos in the comments sections of the original post. But it occurred to me that you’d wouldn’t get a notification about that, so you’d never know what I did here.

Ergo, I’ve started a new Blog line for such things. You know? For updates to posted projects. Things happen. Things change, sometimes. That said…

I think we were in fair agreement that the Purpleheart finial on the Mulberry Lidded Box wasn’t ringing any bells. Or floating any boats. On the contrary, it kinda put my knickers in a twist. So, this evening, a bubble reached the surface of my brain (such as it is – when a thought crosses my mind, it’s rarely a long trip), and I set about making a new finial for said Thing.

A while back, you may recall that I made a pen of what I thought, and am still in doubt, was Myrtle. I want so badly doe it to be Jacaranda. But, when I just looked over the posting of that pen, I see a photo of the raw stick, and it sure looks like Myrtle.

Be that as it may (I keep trying to convince myownbadself that everything is as it should be, and I should just calm the heck down), this finial came form the pen blank I had left after making that mysterious pen.

And, now, for the big unveiling of the new finial on the Mulberry Lidded Box. Are you sitting down?

So, there you go, there you have it, and there it is. I took it in the house and handed it to Dad, saying, “Examine this and tell me whether I should go ahead and glue it in. Is the color okay?” (Dad’s color acuity is much better than mine, though, quite frankly, I have no way of verifying that.)

I left the room, and, when I came back, he said it looked real good. So I glued it in. It’s permanent. I’m satisfied with it, whether I like it or not.

Thank you. And, I apologize.

I like it better. Adds to the overall beauty rather than trying to outdo the turning.

Thanks for the link.

A vast improvement over the purple heart which I can now say reminded me of a Vienna Sausage. Not that there is anything wrong with Vienna Sausage, they can be quite tasty, but they are hardly considered haute cuisine. There is a time and place for everything and this lovely lidded box deserved something more refined. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks. I thought you might like that. Although I think, now, that it could’ve been a bit more elegant. No. I lied. I thought while I was turning it that the straight part should have some convexity about it, and the cone at the top should be smaller, and, overall, it just should’ve been a little more, oh, sexy(?). However, I also thought at the time that this is a mighty tender little piece of wood, and I wanted to get it done without breaking it. A more dense piece of material would’ve been better. Oh, well. It’s stuck, now.

John: Now you’ve got me jonesing for a snack. Vienna sausage or, maybe, sardines. I have none of those things on hand, and, it wouldn’t be right, at this time, to drive to the store, after I’ve had one snoot-full of my customary sleep aid. There. I’ve put it on my list. There’s no gratification like delayed gratification.
