As The Lathe Turns

As you may know, I acquired a lathe in 2011 and have gradually been adapting to its abilities and learning how to better exploit them. Making bowls is of particular interest to me, although my progress is slow and difficult. Perhaps I’m a slow learner in this area, I don’t know. However, I have moderate successes, including today’s experience which was most positive. I recently purchased a tap, sized to match the spindle on my lathe (3/4”x 16 TPI) and used it to tap a face-drilled maple turning blank; the blank is for a bowl, and I tapped the mouth side, then mounted it on the lathe spindle.
