I had a small apartment with six kids and no dining room to put a table in it. I bought one of those small plastic top folding tables for the kitchen. When I bought my house I wanted a big table but didn’t want to spend big $$$. So I bought a piece of nice plywood, cut it to 3 ft x 6 ft and viola, I had a table. Part 2: Design for Legs of Cheap Kitchen Table

My kitchen table is cheap, really cheap. But it looks decent. So far it’s a plastic table with a plywood top. I want to have legs so that the table can slide under the kitchen bench. Here’s the new leg design. The legs should cost less than $5 since they are only two of 2×4s. Joinery connecting the legs will be through tenons and the top will be joined to the legs with Kreg pocket screws.

Part 3: Improved leg design

You spoke and I listened. We made corner blocks for the legs so that they should be plenty strong enough. Here’s a picture with the corner blocks installed into the bottom and top horizontals. These were the most difficult and dangerous thing we’ve ever made in the workshop. They took dangerous cuts on the miter saw and table saw. We will never do them again and will make a jig next time to be safer. Here’s what the side verticals looks like next to the horizon...
