European hinges keep needing adjustment - 7 replies

Good morningMy kitchen cabinets are 9 years old and have Salice European hinges that I have to keep readjusting the alignment.They keep sagging inward. I have looked online for a solution but have found nothing. Has anybody here had this problem? Any body got a solution so that I don’t have to keep adjusting them?Thanks David

Quarter sawing walnut - 15 replies

I just aquired a 30” diameter by 16’ walnut log.I was wondering if it is benificial to have it quarter sawn or is it best for only certain types of wood like white oak or sycamore? Is it worth the extra money to have it quarter sawn? or for some wood does it really make a difference at all.

vinyl replacement window - 4 replies

I am going to help my son install vinyl replacement windows that measure 40 X 66 inches and are very heavy.My question is, can we remove the glass before we install the window frame to lighten them up or do you have to keep the glass in tact when installing? They are double hung windows so removing the glass panes is easy. thanks

Stickers for lumber pile - 10 replies

I have 2 white oak and 1 red oak logs that I will soon have sawn into boards so I am trying to find the cheapest,best sticker to use.Has anyone here cut plywood or styrofoam into strips for stickers?Does anyone see a problem with either one of these materials?Thanks

I have a friend who has 2 – 2 year old white oak saw logs that he is willing to part with.My question is, is it ok that a log has sat for 2 years before being sawn?Is it best to have a log sawed when it is fresh cut?

Red Oak staining uneven - 10 replies

These frames are made of red oak. I sanded the to 180 grit and used Varathane Gunstock stain and they looked fine. put a coat of General Finishes Armor Seal and now it looks like some areas didn’t take any stain. I bought a Mortise Pal just before they went out of business and have used it a handful of times. The problem I have with it is getting the mortises to perfectly line up so that when the tenons are installed my face frames line up. I’m mounting my router into my table saw. Looking at router table tops I see many have a combo mitre-t track and some just have a mitre track. The combo seems like overbuild. So those who have the combo, do you use both tracks? Those who only have a mitre track do you wish you had the combo track?Thanks

Need to make walnut drawer pulls - 5 replies

I am refinishing an old walnut dresser that is missing a few drawer pulls. What would be the best way to duplicate them besides hand carving them? Could one make them with a pantograph? Has anybody out there made anything like this? If you have what would you charge to make them?Thanks

Orange peel with spray can of Shellac - 5 replies

I bought a spray can of Zissner Bulls Eye Shellac, when sprayed on my project the finish is rough looking, sort of looks like orange peel. Did I apply it wrong? Did I get a bad can? Is there anything I can do to smooth it out? Thanks
