This one come under the heading of, “It takes 2000 at-a-boys to make up for on Aww ^%#$ and one aww ^%#$ will cancel 2000 at-a-boys. Working on a pantry/cabinet in which my sweetheart can store some of the bounty our garden which she cans each year. Her garden is prolific and she is an expert at wasting exactly none of it. This piece will have a total of eleven 16 inch wide interior shelves of ¾ inch plywood each of which has a 1 X ¾ strip glued across the front for extra stiffness...

Part 2: Fine thanks, and how is your day?

03-09-2013 02:19 PM by KelvinGrove | 0 comments »

I need to be out in the shop. This weekend I plan to get through step 5 (of 9) in the pantry/cabinet project. I need to run to the orange place for one more piece of lumber. The one I selected for making the shelf rails had a defect that allowed it to break when ripped to one inch strips. A busy week at work coming up so no evening shop time this week. But all-in-all, a good weekend. Next weekend, finish the urethane. The following weekend, final build and finish. Observation 1, wouldn’t it be nice if the part of the project you enjoy least came first so you could get it...

Part 5: Why is it?

03-17-2013 10:16 PM by KelvinGrove | 0 comments »

Well this weekend finds me assembling the big cabinet for Peggie’s closet. This monster will weigh 275 when done. It is not intended to be pretty, it is intended to be functional. So I have spent the weekend with this thing on its back in the floor. It is put together with shelves glued into dados and 11 screws in each shelf holding it to the sides and back. Each shelf has three half lap notches which fit into a half lap notch on the front stiles. At least, after a bit of quality ...

Part 6: Fine Spring Weather

03-29-2013 01:41 PM by KelvinGrove | 5 comments »

It looks like North Georgia is finally going to get some spring weather. By the end of this rare day off from “the mill” I will have the last of the finishing done on my wife’s new cabinet. Tomorrow it will be moved into place…if I can find enough help to move this 275 pound monster. Next month it is off to my other hobby…orchards and vineyards. I will be spending all my project money on new peach and pear trees and on new trellises and vines. Observation ...
