How to get experience without hurting yourself ? - 50 replies

I am very “experienced” table saw operator as I read countless manuals on what not to do with a table saw. Nevertheless today I was ripping a wet board (you know the one that HD sells for fencing). The splitter deflected to the side and I had to stop midcut and fix it. Then stupid me I restarted the saw without pulling the stock out ...

How high to raise the blade - 20 replies

A common recommendation is to keep the table saw blade as low as possible. That is deemed to be safer as the teeth protrude only a quarter of inch or so. Then there is an absolutely opposing suggestion to keep the blade as high as possible. That ensures more vertical direction of cut and as the result less chance of a kickback. So what is the ul...

G0715p alignment issues as explained by Grizzly - 13 replies

A Grizzly techsupport answered my question about infamous issues of the blade going out of alignment when it is cranked up. He just said, yes it does, but only when you raise it beyond of what is the saw designed for i.e beyond 3 1/4” or so. I looked at some videos of people who claimed they had the issue and it does not look like they und...

New Delta Saws - 14 replies

What is the difference between Delta 36-725 sold in Lowes and Delta 36-5000 ?The second one is almost twice as expensive. I only see a better fence and slightly different motor. What else ?

This is probably why HF dust collector is on sale now. - 24 replies

Just received it and tried to put together.Initially I was puzzled then a bit angry, then started laughing all the was till the dust collector finally took its shape. I tried to follow the instructions and stared with casters. Then I realized I ran of hex nuts on the second caster so I decided to keep only one fastener on each caster till Home D...

G1023RL vs G0771 for a hobbyist ? - 13 replies

So I am at the point where my 10 years old $60 ACE Hardware bench saw is not enough for my needs. I was looking to buy G0771 but I see many complains about the fence and people upgrade to Biesemeyer, which with rails costs around $400, which makes G0771 a not so smart buy. For $200 more one can get a G1023RL that is a next level saw. Any other ...

Why does Sawstop lower the blade ? - 15 replies

The blade stops immediately anyway but this makes the design much more complex. In fact without lowering the blade the system could be very simple and most saws could be retrofitted to use it.

Do I need a table saw ? - 65 replies

I guess this is not a new topic but I would like to put it in a different perspective, If you make money from woodworking there is no question, you need a table saw, Even though it is possible to do most of the work a table saw does on a track saw there is a big difference between measuring an marking all your cuts and simply setting the fence o...

Why do they make thin kerf blades ? - 25 replies

I was surprised to learn that very few table saws take thin kerf blades. Actually the only saw I know is Grizzly’s 0771 hybrid. I am sure there are others though. Apparently manufacturers are concerned about the strength of the riving knife that thin so are unwilling to take responsibility for their failures. Does it mean that thin kerf bl...

Where to get kitchen island plan. - 2 replies

I want to build something like this: http://www.floatproject.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/large-kitchen-island-with-seating.jpgUnfortunately my skills are not substantial enough to make it by just looking at the photo. Any ideas where I would get a plan for a similar island ?

Stopsaw for everyone ! - 46 replies

So it is 15 years since stopsaw was invented, and the patents are about to expire. Does it mean thar other manufacturers like Bosch will jump into production ? And if so does it mean that most of current table saws will become obsolete to the point that you would have to pay to get rid of one, let alone selling it ? Currently Stopsaw enjoys mono...

So Grizzly G0715P or G0771 ? - 22 replies

I am about to buy either of these saws but every time I am ready to press the “buy” button I think the other saw is better, go to the shopping cart. swap the saws and then the history repeats again.G0715P seems to have more substantial fence but is of older design and there are many posts about blade misalignment. G0771 has cabinet m...
