« Part 1: Starting My Journey Part 2 of My Beginning Days series Part 3: Dust »

As I sit here at work, trying to wrap up my week, I keep thinking about the projects I am going to work on this weekend. The more I research different things, the more I learn, and the bigger my vocabulary grows. It amazes me that no matter what I learn, the nomenclature involved with it is so expansive and at times intimidating. So far, it hasn’t been to bad with woodworking. I know it can though. Watching videos and reading articles, there is always something I need to go and look up. One of the first things I tried to understand is ‘boardfeet’ since that is how wood is sold at my local hardwood dealer. Its a new way to order lumber.

I took up sailing a while back and I own a 15 foot sailboat that I love to take out…very similar experience to being in my shop. When I first took up sailing, there was so much to learn. I used flash cards so that I could learn it quick. My wife made fun of me, but when we were out in the boat for the first time, she was impressed with what I knew…confused, but impressed. While most people might just ignore it all, I took it on as one of the challenges.

My lunch has ended so I guess I am going back to work. I have a couple of projects I am working on this weekend, so hopefully they will be complete by Sunday night and posted! It’s supposed to storm here so wish me luck.

Being a married man, here’s a term that gets thrown around here (not strictly woodworking related) that you’ll surely understand.

SWMBO – She Who Must Be Obeyed.
