I just learned of Spalted Maple as I was searching for wood with character to make pistol grips for my Sig Sauer 226 X-Five. I love the look of this grain and I’m looking for any advice on how or where to buy this type of wood. There is a Tart Lumber by my house but they didn’t have this special wood.

Cp in culpeper usually has some ambrosia maple. For all you need the woodcraft in leesburg should have some.

Normal construction lumber yards don’t normally carry hardwood lumber, you want a hardwood yard.

Cp johnson lumber in culpeper, hardwoods in the rough in manassas or smaller yards/stores like eco friendly in Catharpin, Dunlap woodcrafts in chantilly, Vienna hardwoods in Vienna, colonial in Springfield…

MJR, I’d really appreciate that. where are you located? If too far away are you willing to ship? Also are your pieces kiln dried?

I’ll ship you a box, It should only cost a couple dollars, How thick and how big of pieces do you need for your grips? I think the cutoffs I have are 1 1/2” or 2” thick and 4 or 5” wide i have some wider pieces too
