I’m 25 and live in rural Western NY. My husband and I started building our own house in the Spring of 2012, and my interest in woodworking began. We had harvested some trees from our family farm to use in the house (a great assortment of Cherry, Maple, Ash, and Hickory), and I got to tail saw for my friend who has a sawmill. 6,000 board ft. later, I was enamored with the wood and couldn’t wait to do more with it. I’ve done some hand hewing and a small bit of timber framing, but I’m a real beginner. I just recently used a table saw, router and planer for the first time. My friend has a lathe, and that has been a lot of fun, too. I’m looking to learn all I can, and progress in this wonderful craft. I’m fortunate to have a great husband who supplies me with lots of encouragement and tools! We’re learning a lot together. All I know, this is way more fun than any office job.

Welcome to lumberjocks. Please post some pictures of the house as you build it. My wife and I would love to have something in the mountains of Colorado and we’ve kicked around the idea of building our own. Your pictures could be a great inspiration.
