Infinity router multi templates and tape - 6 replies

I purchased templates for the 4×7” butterfly and heart templates. I also purchased the clear double-sided tape they recommended. The templates are great! Very thick acrylic and accurate. IMHO the tape is horrible! I made a test cut with the butterfly template and the tape left horrible glue residue on the templates! It took forever to...

5/8" hole, Can I Use a Center Cut End Mill? - 8 replies

Need to cut some 5/8” holes approximately 1/16” deep into maple veneer to add a disc of aluminum as part of a decoration. Was looking at 5/8” Center Cut End Mills with 1/2” shanks. Any reason I can’t use this tool to accomplish my task?

I'm fuming! A white oak bed. How much ammonia? - 18 replies

I’m building the Kevin Rodel A&C Stickley style bed shown in the April Fine Woodworking magazine. Never fumed before. Plan to make a 2×4 frame covered with plastic to put over the headboard, footboard and side rails. Will put the 28% ammonia in glass pie plates. My question – how much ammonia should I purchase? Pint, quart?

Malware from Free Wood Magazine Woodworking Plans? - 8 replies

Today I wanted to revisit a plan I had downloaded a few years ago. Went to the Wood Magazine site and found I would need to download an application to convert “Docs to PDFs.” I soon received a warning from Apple about this app, So I didn’t complete the install. Although I didn’t complete the install I noticed my browser h...

Has anyone used the Nova Dovetail Chisel to form Bowl Recess? - 12 replies

I see Nova offers a chisel they say will make the correct dovetail for mounting bowls to their chucks. Have you used one and what is your opinion about the tool?

Skew Chisel - 6 replies

Haven’t turned a thing yet but have a midi lathe and Nova G3 chuck ordered. My desire is to make small bowls. The on-line manual for the chuck says I need to make a bevel in the base of the bowl for the chuck to grab. It’s supposed to be 15ยบ. I looked at some Sorby skews and they’re available in widths of 1/2, 3/4, 1 and 1 1...

Non-Responses from the "Contact Us" section - 3 replies

The “Contact Us” section at the bottom of this page says, “We are here to answer any questions you may have about your experiences. Reach out to us and we’ll respond as soon as we can.” Well, I haven’t had such a positive response. Didn’t even think I asked that tough of a question! All I wanted to know ...

Infinity Lock Miter on 3/4" Maple Ply - 11 replies

I’m will be building a wall cabinet and planned on joining the corners using the Infinity Lock Miter router bit. I have used this successfully on a few hardwood cabinets but would like to know if anyone has tried this bit and joint on 3/4 ply. I would use an MDF backing board to avoid tear-out. Thanks for your input!

Band Saw Work Light Replacement - Rikon 10-325 - 11 replies

Maybe I’m alone here, but why does it seem that the work lights on band saws are mounted on the wrong side of the machine? I haven’t been able to get a straight answer from anyone about this. But, I decided to make some modifications on my machine to make the light more useful. First, I removed the factory goose-neck lamp along wi...

Are All Power Tools Created Equal? - 18 replies

A friend tells me that his research indicates that most all table saws (and other machines) come out of the same factory in Taiwan and that the only difference between a $1,500 Grizzly and my $4,000 Sawstop is the flesh detection mechanism. What is the truth?

Wood Magazine Traditional Workbench - 2 replies

Has anyone built the Traditional Workbench from plans offered by Wood Magazine? If so, I have a few questions for you. 1) Are you pleased with the bench? 2) Did you use two of the same sized Lee Valley vises or did you use one large and one smaller?

Legalities of using You Tube videos - 3 replies

I am compiling a blog entry regarding a recent dust collector modification. I have given credit to those whose ideas I have borrowed. But, I’d like to embed a You Tube video that one of these people made to show how they made their modification. In my mind I should be able to do this without any legal ramifications. But, I’ve never d...

Can you explain a question about the Thien baffle? - 2 replies

I’m about to begin my build of a chip separator with a Thien baffle. I’ve done quite a bit research to satisfy my design needs, but I’m still left with a question. I can’t figure out why the vacuum from the center connection doesn’t just directly suck up the dust coming out of the input elbow? (Guess they call it...

Thien baffle questions - 11 replies

Ready to build my separator with Thien baffle but have a few questions: 1) Should the inlet elbow rest ON the baffle or be located above it? 2) I was planning to build the baffle using 1/4” hardboard, tempered both sides. But, was wondering if this slick surface would be less effective than using material with a rough surface? My que...

Modifying the light location on the Rikon 10-325 Bandsaw - 16 replies

Before purchasing my new Rikon 10-325 Bandsaw I looked at the work light and thought, “how weird, it’s opposite of where it should be!” Now that I have the unit up and running I have had an opportunity to see how I can rectify the situation. I pulled the power switch to inspect the construction. It sure looks to me that I ca...
