Hello All,

I’m new to the forum as a contributor but have lurked for some time. :-)

I have two of these nightstands (typical particleboard frame, covered with Teak veneer) that i got from CL. They are manufactured with bolt inserts so that they can be attached to the platform bed, which was part of the original design. I do not have the platform bed.

Because the base is so narrow, I need to stabilize the piece so that it doesn’t fall over if someone puts something on the drawer compartment. After considering adding “feet” to the base, I dismissed the idea because of aestetics.

So instead of preventing tipping by broadening the base, I’ve decided that if the piece had a heavy base, then there’s a better chance that the end product won’t be hideous.

So i dug through my lumber and found some cherry and cut a chunk of it for testing and modeling.

I can place the table bottom set back about 3/8 from the edge and it looks OK, but i’d like to make something a little more elegant.

What can i do to the base to make it look more pleasing to the eye?

Have your say...
