My Father- in- law is coming to vist next weekend from Vermont, he is a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus and is very involved with the Catholic church. Well the guy was nice enough to let me marry his daughter so I figured I would make him a little something to take back home with him. Part 2: Mahogany Cross cut out

As the title says I cut out set the thickness of the mahogany Cross. I decided on Mahogany thanks to Lew and Russel’s sugestion. I did some light sanding but have not gotten to routing at this point so small update. now with the pics I have decided on Watco satin wipe on poly …... after a sugestion from that guys at woodcraft and a post I made in the forums….. till next time be safe all

Part 3: Failure

Ok so I attempted to route the Mahogany cross and the router and myself really chewed up the wood…. this is my first time working in mahogany but I did all the same steps at I took with the pine cross.. the router burned the wood and chewed up the cut pretty bad… not sure why…. was I working too fast it the router and bit that sub-par?? Its a ryobe cordless trim router and a ryobe bit (I said I was a noob :D) So now I have a couple choices… 1. give up on getting this d...

SO I attempted to fix the mahogany cross in some of the ways you have all sugested and some may have worked if I wasn’t such an oaf and didn’t baredown to hard and break one of the arms of the cross off. (no not intentional I guess I just pushed to hard)..... But on an up note I purchased a new router and bits this past weekend at the woodcraft sale!!!!! I was wrking on cutting out the cross on a shiny new plank of mahogany earlier this week and blew out the 6 hole plug sur...

Part 5: Success!!!

Well after having bought a new router and a good bit….. No problems on the fresh cut out cross….. just zip zip zip no burns great finish… the cross is not finished yet still sanding and wipe on poly to go but it looks good to me thus far….... Stay safe everyone and thanks for reading
