My parents have a house on Lake Gaston in NC and are going to be cutting down approx 10-12 trees. I am not sure of all the species yet. I was curious if there was anyone in the area that might want to buy the wood or take down the trees and take the wood. Have to be insured.

Glass insert for shaker style cabinet door? - 5 replies

Hi everyone! I’m building some new cabinet doors (shaker style) and want to do one of them with a glass insert. Can I follow the same process to build it as I am doing the rest of the doors? I.e., cut the rails and stiles to match the thickness of the glass and slide the glass into that groove? I’m not sure if I would run into an...

Finish for new cabinet doors? - 9 replies

I’m about to begin the process of building some cabinet doors for my kitchen. I want them to have a soft sheen (semi-gloss?) and am not sure what to use. I have a lot of doors to finish and will be applying the finish by hand so I’m looking for something that is easy to apply by hand and will provide a durable finish. Any ideas?

5/4 Oak for Shaker Cabinet doors - too thick? - 7 replies

Hi all, I just began the process of milling my lumber for some shaker style cabinet doors I am making for my kitchen. I got 5/4 red oak and am wondering if it is maybe too thick? I went to 5/4 so I could 1/2” ply for the inserts. Should I consider planing this down a little bit or would 5/4 look fine in a kitchen?

I’m going to be building new shaker style cabinet doors for my kitchen this fall and am currently in the process of sourcing red oak. Modifying HF Dust Collector without going nuts? - 21 replies

I just picked up a HF dust collector and have read a few threads here and elsewhere on the interwebs about modifying it to make it a little better. Frankly, I don’t have the time at the current moment to do a lot of these mods. Maybe down the road, I will but for right now I just need it to work fairly well. With that said, what very ...
