Table saw smoking - any ideas? - 6 replies

I have a 2 hp 220v cabinet saw (craftex cx208 which is the same as the General International 50-200 that they sold a few years ago, also same as the Magnum at KMS and almost the same as the Stallion saw at Canadian Woodworker). I was cutting a pine 2×6 that completely stalled the blade it pinched so bad (glad it has riving knife!). The moto...

Finish in cold weather - 6 replies

I’ve made a small side table for my mother in law and we’re driving about 8 hours to her place for a Christmas. The finish will be dry for a day or two before we leave but won’t be fully cured and it will be below freezing for the drive. Anyone have any experience with this? Will the cold weather damage the finish in any way or just slow down th...

Craftex CT191 Wet Sharpener - anyone have this? - 3 replies

It’s on sale right now but I can’t find any reviews other than one on the Busy Bee tools website which I have to be a bit skeptical of. https://www.busybeetools.com/products/10in-wet-grinder-craftex.htmlIt’s a fair bit cheaper than a lot of others out there so I’m a bit hesitant. I’d like a Tormek but it’s four times the price (and about four ti...

Trouble adjusting Incra Miter sliders - 2 replies

Anyone else have an issue with this? I’m having trouble getting all the slop out with Incra’s mitre runners. It seems to take a lot more torque to tighten the nylon adjusters than it should. Feels like I’m about to break the allen wrench (it’s definitely been bending). One of the screws is stripped now because the Allen key slipped o...

Blemishes/spots in arm r seal finish - 12 replies

Update: With pictures. I put pictures in and they showed up when I did a preview but the actual post cut them out and cut off half of my message. Trying again… Any thoughts on what is causing this? Walnut coffee table finished with arm r seal. I did several coats to build up the finish and then rubbed it out with wet sandpaper and steel...

Portable Mill in Calgary, Alberta area? - 2 replies

Anyone know of portable mills in Calgary? The only ones I’ve found are limited to 30 and 32” logs. I’ve got a green ash that is 36-38” and I’d like to get slabs at its widest point if I can.

Craftex CX 208 riving knife adjustment (same as Stallion T1002 and Magnum or General 50-200) - 3 replies

Anyone have one of these and set it up? I’m having difficulties with the riving knife alignment. It came about 1/4 inch (maybe 3/8) out of alignment – to the left of the blade. Of the four set screws the two bottom ones are tough to access and one of them is nearly impossible. It almost seems like the entire dust shroud needs to come...

Changing table saw plug from 6-15 to 6-20 - 3 replies

I’m looking at a table saw that comes with a 6-15 plug (two flat prongs are sideways). I have a 6-20 outlet that other tools use now (one prong is sideways). Can I change the plug in the table saw and use a 6-20 instead?

Light spots in finish - 1 reply

Hey everyone, I finished a walnut table top with Arm-R-Seal, several coats then flattened the finish using 600 grit sandpaper with water and a bit of soap to lubricate. So far so good. Then rubbed it with steel wool (0000). I’m happy with how it looks except there are a few obviously lighter spots. Any ideas on what this is or what I shoul...

Jointer knives shift after tightening screws - 12 replies

My jointer has the springs for setting height and I have successfully set the knives twice now but after limited use it seems like the knives are getting pushed down further and the blades are now lower than the outfeed table (originally set ever so slightly above the outfield). The first time it happened I thought it was perhaps because I hadn&...

Waterstone froze but did not break and now won't sharpen - 11 replies

Okay so apparently I took my waterstone out to the garage when it was not quite dry… When I brought it back in to do some sharpening it had some ice on it but was not broken. Now no matter how long it soaks it will not hold water. Once I do a few passes with a plane blade it’s basically dry on top. No matter how much water I add as I...

Insane price increase at Baileigh Industrial - 18 replies

Anyone else notice the insane price increase over at Baileigh? I’ve been saving for a jointer/planer combo and was looking at the 12” JP1250. For the past year it was $2095 (sale price of $1780 which looked pretty good). I had a quote from them (including shipping) that expired so was going to refresh it and looked at the website and saw t...

Problems with my new Veritas Low Angle Jack Plane - 16 replies

I just picked up the LA Jack yesterday and am not getting very good results. All of the reviews have been great so I’m sure it’s something I’m doing (or not doing). Right now I’m getting better results from an old Stanley #4 that has a slightly out of flat sole and crooked mouth opening! To start with in order to insta...
