I am a spontanious woodworker. I can never predict when it will happen. Wood is wonderful, and beautiful, but my woodworking is almost always painted. That is because I live in a NY apartment, and I take apart old useless pieces and make new things out of them. I ripped all the old shelves out of our closets and custom built them to fit my needs and the space. Wheels and castors are the best. I love heavy shelves that I can move with ease. My latest creation is a seven foot tall Shelving unit/room divider/full length mirror unit on wheels. I built it on top of an old movers dolly. One side has shelves for make-up mirrors, hair dryer and beauty supplies and an electric strip to plug it all in. The other side is decorative as well as functional with a full length mirror and smaller shelves down the side, top and bottom. It holds candles and perfumes, attractive things. It is all painted white and looks very nice after a week of work!

Welcome to LJ’s …..
It is a great bunch of woodworkers to be able to bounce ideas off of or to ask questions of.
I understand how some like to paint there wood…and I have learned to give my clients what they want and accept it, however, for me I like to bring the beauty of the grain to the surface. It makes me feel as if I am restoring life to the wood. We are all different with different ideas…That is just one more thing that makes this site great. Looking forward to seeing some of your projects…

Thank you. I am learning more and more about wood and the beauty of it. I have just found out how fantastic orange oil is for cleaning unfinished wood. That probably shows how much I know about finishes! But I DO love unfinished wood. It is hard not to paint rough mismatched scrap wood that you have put together and tried to unify. I guess thats where the painting everything starts. Well that and I am also an artist so painting is second nature to me in a way.
Its very exciting to have the opportunity to learn things from experienced and knowledgeable people such as yourself. Thank you so much for your comment. Much appreciated! :D
